Troubleshooting • Wayland vs. X11 keyboard

Nothing comes for free, it seems. After running Wayland on my Pi 5 for some days and finding it not ready yet for my purpose -- trying to make a smarter, more private "smart" TV, which needs titlebar controls, which were sometimes there and sometimes not in Wayland -- I switched to the more familiar X11. Again, for *my* purpose X was better. But with it came a new problem: none of those nice volume, mute, pause, rewind, fast forward, etc., controls on my little keyboard-trackpad remote, that worked wonderfully in Wayland, work at all in X.

So I'm looking for one of several things: a package that makes sure the titlebar conltols -- minimize, maximize, close -- are present and visible in Wayland, with the screen default set to Large; or a way to bring Wayland keyboard mapping to X; or some variation or combination of the two, or a nice xkb map for an American English keyboard that is mapped with standard remote values.

If you have ever spent time with xkb, you understand my anguish. So basically I'm trying to avoid that.

Thanks in advance.
