Thanks for tracking this down. I can report:

- I was failing using the stock Ubuntu 24.04 Desktop image retrieved with Raspberry Pi Imager
- Burned onto a MicroSD card provided with my RPi5 kit
- Editing those two lines in config.txt worked for me
- The RPi5 system boots up into Ubuntu 24.04 just fine
