That's a good point; never thought of that. Although, yes, the pic's perspective skews things; in reality the field wiring is about 3-4 inches away from the modules.The ribbon cables (plus associated PCB tracking) make a sizeable antenna, that will pick up any transients or RF interference, and feed that noise directly into the CPU.
As a starter, I'd keep the 'dirty' real-world signals well away from the 'clean' low-voltage signals; in your photo, they seem to be really close.
