Yes, its what @jamesh wrote, buy a Pi400. Then you go through the installation procedure of the PiOS. In the end you have a standard set up of the Pi. But that's probably not the friendly desktop you have in mind. There is a lot of software which is usable, sometimes there is nothing else and you have to do with it. They have a program "Recommended Software", that's a standard, but there is a lot more. There are two options when it comes to other software. There is a menu item "Add / Remove software", its a nice program, but needs some update to make it more user friendly. Yes, you can pick your program and install it from there. But the community is not sitting on its hands, the amount of available packages is enormous and growing. So it would be more then welcome that you can choose between ready to go programs and everything else if you want to build it yourself in some way. Setting up with only ready to go programs is what every starter wants. After that, when your settled with the machine you can look further. There is also a lot of programs which are not available in the "Add / Remove software", you have to find those on the internet. One of the reasons that the set of the present "Add / Remove software" package does not work is the lack of the knowledge of program names with the new owner. it is not Windows or so, programs do have a different name. Another point is the lack of help, how to search with a multi term search? You get always more not wanted programs which listen to one piece of the term, but not in total, and with the long list it takes a lot of time and you need to focus. This could be much better. I'm still searching for programs which can fill in my needs, for some reason I want my old way of working back, but may be that's not possible. Up to now I have trouble with drawing packages, still busy with that. Have no idea what's in it because not all are listen to the same search words. Next, how to maintain my homepages? And so on. Now I'm busy with going from 32bit to 64bit. Again everything I had experienced with the 32bit setup comes back with the 64bit setup. The only advantage is that I now know where to look for, so a few things are speeding up. And after some time you will have a working Pi the way you want with your setup and way of working. But then they will come up with a new Pi and all is probably going again, because I doubt if someone does something with the remarks. Have already some experience with it.
