You could try limiting the max cpu clock to reduce power and heat.

arm_freq=800

in config.txt.

The default max is 1000MHz for the Zero 2W. I've got some of mine set to 800 because it seems to help prevent a problem I had with wifi dropping.

Interesting. I'll try that later. Thanks for the tip. I didn't turn on my raspberry today, but I'll test it later. I also left a screen on it with two windows, in case I lost the connection or crash.
