I know Nyquist but, for this application, it is not the goal to reconstruct a signal in time. I need to take individual samples of some stuff at some speed that I can choose, from as low as I want to as fast as the acquisition system allows for it. Each sample has its own trigger. I need about 1e9 samples, and would like to collect them in a few hours, hence the constraint on the speed. I am following this approach, as opposed to continuously sampling at some frequency and later on figuring out which are the samples of interest, so the post processing of the data becomes much simpler. Basically, I want make a one-sample-per-waveform oscilloscope.
