So it could well be a problem with debris on the board. If you clean or touch the board when it is powered of course it may stop to work. You can also try it not plugged into a computer's USB, use something else like a battery pack, see if it blinks reliably -- that will help determine if the USB port caused any of it.

Maybe others here would like to chime in. But if your USB power is reliable, and you can't get these two to work reliably, you can probably save time and effort by getting new boards -- and then make sure they are kept clean etc. The boards are pretty robust and has worked fine for many, many folks, so you might want to review how you are working with the boards -- only you know that.
