Troubleshooting • Re: Pi5 Completely (permanent) locks up when CPU reaches 100%

I'm on my 2nd Pi5 now as I thought my first one may have been a bad unit but it seems this issue is consistent. I am running my Pi5 as a Plex / CasaOS media server with a 16TB external hard drive (exFAT) attached. Whenever I am transferring files over network and / or watching a movie and the pi5 CPU reaches 100 it completely locks up to where I have to force restart (power button or unplug). The causes can be either one or a combination of watching movies or network transfers. I've tried to even wait a week before to see if it would unfreeze but it never does.

Any recommendations to not get this complete freeze / lock? Is there anything I can do to "tame" the CPU hog of Plex and CasaOS? or an $80 computer gonna be an $80 computer?

Before you guys go on about power units, I've tried them ALL, including the official RPI 27W. Wy hard drive is self powered and plugged into a self powered USB hub as well.
Even though this is a Pi 5 rather than 4, I'd suggest disabling UAS mode on the HD as described in

If that doesn't help, are you running short of RAM and going into swap?

You might also try a firmware update.
