as one will be able to use the CM5 on CM4IO (with limited set of features) one could assume so.

and are we sure the CM5 will fit the CM4IO?

I'm pretty sure it was announced somewhere that the CM5 will be (apart from a few reassignments) pin compatible with the CM5. There is a document for developers which requires a login.
