General • Powering with Battery and USB Connected - Is this a solution?

Good morning,

I am working on a project with a PICO W and need to power it with Batteries and have the USB cable connected. According to the documentation, it states a Schotkey diode can be used at the battery power input. That may not be possible on this project without additional modifications.

As I understand it, the problem is that the batteries could over power the USB or the other way around.

To get around this, I was thinking it would be a trivial matter to cut the +V wire inside the cable as I recall it is usually the red wire. The 0V, and two data wires would remain as is.

Am I missing something or would this solve the problem?

Yes, I am aware the cable would be useless for other purposes, but I really don't mind have a special cable as it would be handy for a lot of projects that I do with PICOs.

Thanks!
Chris
