Troubleshooting • Re: Pi5 hanging when transfering large files to NAS

The same problem with two Pi 5 computers and different SSDs, network cables and adapters in my opinion makes this problem quite interesting.

Are you running the latest firmware?

Are you testing the NUMA patches?
The Pi5's were bought in the last week so as you would expect are running the latest firmware ( I checked when the problem first occured). As I mentioned earlier they are loaded with Bookworm 6.6.51. Both systems were loaded from the same SD card so if there was some corruption they could both have been contaminated. So perhaps I should build a new card with a fresh dowlnoad and put it on one of the systems.

I don't know anything about the NUMA patches.
The NUMA patches are changes to how memory is allocated that improve performance but make it more difficult to allocate contiguous physical address space. From what I understand this is experimental because there may be hardware devices that become unreliable with the patches.

Trying a fresh install sounds like a plan.
I think the lockup could be related to CIFS. There might be a resource allocation limit that affects files larger than about 6GB. If so, one could get around it by using NFS instead.

Note the hot SSD during the lockup could be the effect of thrashing swap.

Am I right in assuming that transferring lots of 1GB files one after the other works just fine?

Do you have any difficulty transferring a 6GB file from one Pi to the other using SSH?
