Code for the BME280 does not work, so I have to assume it is an actual BMP280.Do you mean Humidity rather than Altitude? The BME280 measure Temperature, Pressure and Humidity. The BMP280 measures just Temperature and Pressure.Now the temperature it reports is about 4 degrees C higher than ambient, the pressure is to within a few % of 'local weather' but the altitude is reporting about 1/3 my actual altitude.
You could probably work out the altitude given the pressure and current sea level readings for your area.
For altitude I'm using the following which I found mentioned somewhere...
