An yes, from information available it looks like there quite likely is M2 slot in upcoming Pi500.

Just listened to a recent podcast interview with Eben Upton. At some point he comments about the Pi engineering team trying to squeeze extra performance out of the BCM2712. Nice!!!
Also the CM5 is up next, officially. He did not mention anything about the 500. Let's hope it's just around the corner
