Size is a big advantage and pricing has dropped to the point where I'd no longer consider it premium.
The price ratio seems to be around 1.3x nowadays at 4TB for an M.2 NVMe SSD vs a 3.5" NAS-rated HDD, so the gap has certainly narrowed of late.

Reliability needs to be taken into account too. Since 2010, I've had one SSD fail out of 14 purchased. During the same time period, I've had 8 out of 12 3.5" HDDs fail, although only 3 of those were rated as NAS drives.

I still use spinning rust for my local network storage as it's never accessed by more than 2 clients at a time, and I still keep backups on spinning rust as I trust them more when powered down over extended periods, but the next active HDD to die will definitely be replaced with an SSD of some kind because their reliability is unbeatable.
