hello,

Thank you all for responding.

I think i was not clear in my question, sorry for that.
I am not looking for a modem or other dailing machines.
The modem mentioned in the start post is the existing modem/router. (a fritzbox 559)
The goal is to make a raspi do everything.
It must be possible, because i found way more complicated telephone systems running on a pi

if i wanted a solution in with external things like modems, i would have chosen to get an old phone programmed one of the preset dialing buttons with the internal number, extended that button with a wire to the doorbell.
I dont want that because it is a "shaky" solution, not to mention the reprogramming after a power failure.

i want a raspi (preferable a pico) two wires in form the doorbell, two wires out to the telephone jack in my fritzbox.
perhaps some components to get the power/current right, but nothing more

So the pi must generate the of-hook mode and the dailing of the tones

my questions:
1: is this even possible on the pi/pico/zero?
2: Where to start looking for code?
3: better/other solutions?
(No "of the shelf" products, way to expensive for me)
4: how can i generate the "off hook" and dialing signals?

I hope someone can help me with this
rgrds
Henk
Your description was perfectly clear. You want a modem.

Two wires from doorbell -> Pi Pico -> Modem -> Fritzbox

Done.
