Networking and servers • Imager v1.8.5 PI5 Bullseye SSH Key Not Working

Hi All,

So I have been using SSH with PI5/Bullseye 64 for a while now, works great. I downloaded the Raspberry PI Imager for Ubuntu.

Today I wanted to push the envelope a bit without killing another day and decided maybe I can just create a key to facilitate SSH sessions into other PI's that I have on the network, I am planning on having about 10 so, I wanted it to be easy to log in/update. Make everything as consistent as possible.

So the first thing I noticed, that there wasn't any help embedded in this app on how to do this, what preliminary and ancillary tasks need to be carried out. Where is the [?-More info]. Or in the very least, when you generate the key a popup should appear and say: Your Public Key has been generated and stored HERE: Your Private Key has been Generated and Stored Here. You need to do this this and that in order for it to work, maybe some sort of hyperlink to a page.

So anyhow, I said, let's just bite the bullet and see if it works automagically, let's just trust the process:

So after I generated the SD card, I put it into the PI, it booted, and then went to my router and figured out what DHCP it gave it. Now later, I am using a WavLink POE pi hat, and so I want to use the IP given to the LAN instead of the WiFi adapter. For a time, I'll get 2 IP's registered and this confuses the hell out of the Flask/WSGIServer as it doesn't know which IP to assign the listening port and so my software crashes. I have to manually disable WiFi once POE is operational. So I am making the case for using an IP instead of some pi.local host name as it too might get confused.

So, I tried to SSH in and no luck.

So being a noob, I'm 95% certain I missed a crucial undocumented step only known amongst the tribal knowledge of the select few. Or 5% the thing just doesn't work flat out.

Anyway, if you have figured out how to get this working using the DCHP-assigned IP addresses, or came across a good Guide on how to get this thing working, I would be thankful.
