Troubleshooting • Updating SD Card Image from Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ 2018 to 2022 - rpi-update Breaks WiFi & Ethernet Drivers

I'm in the process of updating an SD card image for a Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ 2018 (ARMv7, 32-bit Debian 7) to a Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ 2022. However, I’ve encountered an issue where running rpi-update breaks the WiFi and Ethernet drivers.

The Pi is set up as a WiFi access point and a web server, so having network connectivity is critical. Is there a specific kernel version I should be using to avoid this issue? I’ve tried rpi-update to update the kernel, but this seems to cause problems with networking.

Any advice or guidance on which kernel version would work best for both the 2018 and 2022 models, and on how to fix or avoid breaking the WiFi and Ethernet drivers, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
