Ok

So I had successfully managed to run mpd with 2x40 LCD. I thought this would be the easiest option to give it a try with this kind of LCD. All I had to do was to change display width from 16 to 40 in config file. Would you imagine it could be so easy? Originally it was only displaying on first 16 blocks leaving others blank. After change in config it uses all of them now.

So what should I do to make a headless Peppy Player being able to display station info on 2x40 LCD?

The ideal would be:
Top line: radio station name from playlist (centered?)
Bottom line: whatever info is pulled from URL, in most cases it's just artist and title of currently playing song.

LCD is connected via i2c PCF8574T, address 0x27, LCD controller SPLC780D. I'm not sure what other info should I supply here to make it more helpful?

I'd like also use some buttons, at least two for next and previous position on the playlist or to be able to use standard rotary encoder for this function as Sony uses one in their FM tuner. Would be a shame not to use it. Would it be possible to assign some GPIO pins for these functions?

Sorry if I'm asking for too much..
I know this player was originally designed to be operated either via web interface or touch screen..

And now some weirdo trying to make it work in vintage audio stack lol.
