You may have a good point -- I do open by default.
But I did finally get it to work. It wasn't quite so straightforward though. I clicked on format, and the format disk box popped up. It defaults to quick format. I said yes. About a second later, it said done, AND Windows popped up "insert disk J". Well, that makes no sense since it was only asking about J because I had inserted (and tried to format) it! And the format function wouldn't actually rerun or complete. BUT after a few rounds of that, it sort of shut up, and then the Imager worked, and now I have Volumio running!
I guess it would fit nicely into a small Pi4, which is the size that combines Wi-Fi with a 3.5mm audio output, so that's now on my agenda. Thanks y'all.
