It's a wetware issue really. ![Laughing ]()
Sorry for your loss.
I don't know the OP's age...but the following anecdote may be relevant.
I've found that as I've got older, my arms have apparently got shorter.....Even with glasses, it can often be hard to see clearly see small details as is needed when soldering or using GPIO pins...especially in low light.
I have bought a pair of slip over magnifying glasses which are designed to be worn OVER the top of my spectacles. Can't remember where I bought them. I think it was Lidl....but I'm sure that if you look on one of the chinese online shops, you'll find something similar. They are fantastic! ....and much cheaper than PIs..
My wife...who much younger than me and hasn't yet been afflicted with the dreaded short arm affliction uses them too when doing close work.
I also always work with a powerful desk light. Also, if you are doing a complex mess of GPIO connections, there's no shame in getting someone else to double check your work before you connect the power...In many places that I've worked such "peer reviews" were obligatory on live systems.
During experimentation, I use the hard sleeved that are designed to be used with a modern plastic; "breadboard", then once I've decided to make the connection permanent use "heat shrink " insulation sleeves over connections like GPIO pins.
Again...the breadboard wires, sleeves and the low power heat guns needed are available on one of your favourite online Chinese supermarkets. for far less than a fried PI
