Sorry to say, but are yiu sure the CM5 is the right product for you? A Pi5 would be better for new starters.

I also don't get the point wy people install mass storage gadget firmware. Flashing process of CM5 has not changed from CM4, that there is no dedicated power input any longer has only made it more problematic.

Make sure your hosts USB port is able to supply enough power. If you're not sure make use of a good powered USB hub.
Connect the jumper on CM5IO to prevent booting from USB, connect the USB-C connector to the board. Run USB boot on the host and when it outputs 'waiting for blabla ' connect the USB-A connector to your host.

That process always worked with some of the crappy waveshare CM4 baseboards with USB interface only, hence should work with the official CM5IO as well.
