I'd love to claim that this rtkit has come default and un-altered to me, by installing my OS, but I don't know how to proof that.
I can say that if I ask it to "apt remove rtkit", it is the only package it would remove, so I guess nothing else is dependent on rtkit.
I know I haven't ever installed rtkit - I never heard of it until raspberry-pi-ui-mods failed this time.
[So I could of course remove it, not knowing what it's there for, in the first place
]
For now, I'll keep this rtkit and shells in mind, for next time I do an update that involves this raspberry-pi ui gizmo
