They charge and supply power cleanly at the same time, and don't glitch when the mains drops out, which happens regularly to us. They'll take charge from any phone charger - just make sure it supplies more power than you are taking out. I think it's been replaced by a new model now, but I wouldn't anticipate it performing worse. It's on Amazon so easy to return if it doesn't.
