HATs and other add-ons • Re: CamJam Edukit Motor Controller Board Not Working With Pi 5 - No Power

I’m trying to use the CamJam Edukit #3 motor controller board with my Pi 5, it should work, as works with 4B and theoretically the pins are the same. However when I attach it to the GPIO pins, there is no power and the board doesn’t light up (despite still working with pi 4B).

I’ve noticed from some testing of the Pi 5 GPIO thats there are irregularities with the 15TXD, 14TXD, GND and no. 4 pins - compared to pi 4B. The pins appear to be in different positions on the pi 4B compared to pi 5. The 15TXD, GND appear to be swapped with the 14TXD and no. 4 pins - despite the schematics claiming they should be the same.

It almost seems like a driver issue, but there should be any needed for it? I can command the pins I want to turn on, causing it to light up, but that doesn’t make it work unfortunately and despite the code to command it executing with no issues, it definitely isn’t working.

Is it just that this hat doesn’t work with pi5?
Is my pi 5 faulty?
And has anyone got this board to work on pi 5, or having a the same power issue?

The GPIO pins are driven differently on the Pi 5. If your Pi 4 GPIO library is incompatible with the Pi 5 GPIO then it won't work.
