I sometimes end up making video microscopes for museum exhibitions and picameras almost work really well, but they are manual focus.
I was wondering if it would be possible to use a picamera3, remove the lens, replace it with a microscope lens (and a whole lot of housing). Then use the phase sensitive data, the autofocus normally uses to adjust the focus, to control my own actuator to change the focus. So avoiding a lot of tedious and slow hunting behaviour (and some coding).
I guess if the camera is calculating contrast values those would be useful too
Or does this information stay in the camera?
Thanks
