Advanced users • Rsync logging everything

I'm running rsync via a cron job, specifying a logfile:

rsync -a --delete --log-file=/home/rsynclog src dest

Everything I read says that rsync runs silently unless -v is specified. I haven't specified -v but the logfile appears to be listing each of the many thousands of files it looks at, the vast majority of which are unchanged and are rightly not being unnecessarily copied.

I only want to log errors and the things that rsync changes but I can't get on to that until I've understood why I'm getting everything logged when my understanding is that I should be getting nothing.

(the actual backup is working as expected - it's just the logging that appears, to me, to be odd...)

Thanks...
