Troubleshooting • Re: Raspberry Pi Pico W - Does not boot into any uf2.

Hey everyone,

I'm having trouble with my Raspberry Pi Pico W. Earlier today, it was working perfectly when plugged in, it would mount as a USB drive. However, out of nowhere, it stopped showing up, and the LED on the board no longer turns on.

I tried re-flashing the same CircuitPython UF2 file, and the RPI-RP2 drive appeared. However, after flashing, the drive disappeared and didn’t remount. I've been stuck in this state ever since.

So far, I’ve tried:
- Using flash_nuke
- Flashing different UF2 files, including MicroPython
- Testing another Pico board (Tested 2 out of 3, were previously working and should not be defective)
- Trying different USB ports and flashing from a Raspberry Pi 4B

The only thing I haven’t attempted is a firmware or bootloader reflash, but I’m unsure if that’s the issue. My USB cable seems to be fine, but I can’t completely rule it out.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

1. "The only thing I haven’t attempted is a firmware or bootloader reflash, but I’m unsure if that’s the issue."

The firmware for an RPi Pico microcontroller is in the associated .uf2 file. It seems you have attempted reflashing that. The RP2040 bootloader is encoded into the chip. It can't be damaged or changed.

2. "My USB cable seems to be fine, but I can’t completely rule it out."

I suggest ruling that out as a very basic first step. No other tests make sense if used along with a faulty cable.
