I use a scale to do this for my dog food bucket. Weight is checked after the cabinet door closes and the weight is sent to my android phone. Tasker compares before and after weights and if the difference is more than .14 lbs, then everyone gets a text message and an SSH command is sent back to the pi to blink an LED for 5 hours.
All because my dachshund is a liar.
You could set this up to run any time the scoop is picked up and put down? Or on a timer to check periodically? Or when the bucket is uncovered and covered?
