Controlling fan could be more difficult. You should not try to use one of these huge, mains operated fan.
Reason is
- do not work with mains directly
- these fans can't be easily controlled from a RPi ( on/off is simple, but adjusting power could be a challenge).
Perhaps you find a 12V or 24V DC fan of suitable size from a camping/automotive retailer. Controlling DC operated motors can be done using PWM with a mosfet, many examples in the net. Which also can be controlled from RPi.
Also possible to use a DC fan build for computers. But perhaps not that smart to have them in a living room.
