There is no mode with an active area of 2560x1440 defined in either the CEA or DMT standards, which means there is no standard timing that could be adopted. The CVT and GTF timing formulae are even more conservative on pixel clocks and blanking periods, so those are unlikely to be of any assistance.
The kernel drivers are now doing the same as almost every Linux system, as are the interfaces with Wayland to set custom resolutions.
Are you using the same connector on the monitor for both Windows and Pi? It is quite common for DP and HDMI ports on a monitor to give out different EDIDs.
