I just put together an Argon One V3 case with a Samsung NVMe. Mine just worked without a hitch but lots of people do seem to report problems putting it together and getting it to work.
Waveshare offers better instructions than Argon 40 on how to put together the Argon One case: https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/PI5-CASE-ARGON-ONE. Apart from checking if the PCIe connection, they also recommend checking the pogo pin connections of the NVMe expansion board. It may also be worth to do the basic hardware test and the firmware update described in the manual.
