ok i ended up fixing everything.No, unfortunately you turned it off...
1) manually grabbed the pi (luckily i was in town, normally i'm not) and plugged it into my monitor
2) boom, the GUI booted right up
3) however the Connect was still only allowing SSH
4) i uninstalled it completely and reinstalled
5) Connect app once again allowed screen sharing
6) disconnected the monitor and moved it back to its permanent headless position
7) was able to screen share to my laptop successfully same as before
8) pofit!
not sure what happened and why screen sharing disappeared in the first place, but everything seems OK again now. thanks for your help
