I had downloaded the recommended os (around 1gb in size) from the raspberry pi os imager twice and this was the situation. Then I downloaded the raspberry pi os with recommended applications (around 3gb in size) and now the WiFi works out of box without any hassle. Issue was solved but I still wonder what could be the reason/difference (twice in a row too).
