I have done a ps aux with the output below:
and there is no swayidle but there is a pi-greeter. I think I was confused because the desktop appears, then the kiosk browser app starts up then the greeter screen. When I type in the password the greeter screen is replaced by the desktop when is then replaced again by the kiosk browser which continues normally until a reboot.
I still can't turn this off. I have made sure that auto login is set for both desktop and console but that doesn't seem to help. I must be missing something simple!
