One more thing and perhaps not appropriate for this forum. Both Macs, which are always on 5Ghz, can connect to the 2.4 Ghz machines. Is this because of the wireless hardware the Mac uses or some sort of network software magic?

Because of the router?
I really have no idea.

Here's the router set up for the Mac and the Pi.

They are using different networks, but I can ping the Pi from the MacBook Air.
.

Code:

Fifteen:~ mnewman$ ping -c 3 192.168.0.62PING 192.168.0.62 (192.168.0.62): 56 data bytes64 bytes from 192.168.0.62: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=5.190 ms64 bytes from 192.168.0.62: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=3.649 ms64 bytes from 192.168.0.62: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=2.875 ms--- 192.168.0.62 ping statistics ---3 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 0.0% packet lossround-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 2.875/3.905/5.190/0.962 ms
When the Pi4 was on 5Ghz I could not ping the Pi1.

I just don't understand networking well enough to know what's going on.
