Thanks Neilgl - yes - it may come to that - starting afresh with a new install.
However - I have made some progress, but then a step back.
I noticed that after a while spinning after selecting my hotspot ssid from the list on the iPad, that it assigned a 192.169.xx.xx iP address to he iPad …. Didn’t sound like he response you were getting.
So on the iPad at Configure IP. I changed the selection from automatic to manual, and entered
10.42.0.2
255.255.0.0
And router 10.42.0.1
And the connection worked. Blue tick next to Astro . The ssid of my hotspot.
It seems that dhcp (maybe?) on the hotspot rpi is not assigning a valid up address to the incoming iPad request.
However - then trying to access the rpi (the hotspot) via vnc … I can connect in the familiar way (a warning first time and then ok) and enter the required password….but…. The screen is remote screen is solid grey/brown - no icons, nothing. Vnc is not showing the remote screen.
In your list of suggestions above (thanks - much appreciated) you say ‘enable vnc. No updates’. I think that may lead to a problem because only version 7.13.1 and up correctly terminates a releases a connection (if the iPad times out for example). The installation vnc version is something like 7.5.1 I think.
Thank again. Much appreciated.
