Safest way is as follows:

Safest way is as follows:
- Get a spare boot media.
- Install a clean RPiOS on it
- Boot from it and let the first boot stuff run.
- Connect the broken drive and back it up using dd. (search the forum and the web for how)
- Run sudo fsck on the broken root partition
