Peak power usage is a problem. Some of my tests suggest the SSDs peak power usage is higher than what is specified as "maximum" power usage in most specifications. I have two devices for measuring power and voltage but both average over a tiny fraction of a second and it is too long to capture the peak usage. People with oscilloscopes record minuscule peaks higher than what is shown on my devices.

Some PCIe adaptors supply optional power cables. I have one that works with one NVMe SSD without the power cables. Other combinations of adaptors and SSDs require the optional power cables but it is not predictable by brand or model. What works with one Pi may fail intermittently with another from slight variations.

The bases and hats with pogo pins should get enough power and there are reliability problems with the pins if they are not clean new pins on the clean pads of a new Pi.
