General agreement with wanting people who expect to profit from having their issues solved should be up front about that. That said, there is a semi-related issue that comes up from time to time, to wit...

If someone is seeking help to solve a problem they are having the an educational assignment, they should--likewise--let us know right off that that is their situation.

And that leads me on to the oft repeated "I have an urgent project/assignment/delivery to customer/some other deadline ..." posts.

I'm sorry, but your** inability to plan, ability to over promise, and last minute panic isn't my problem.* You need help in a hurry? Find someone in the same timezone (or better yet same village/town/city) as you that you can have a real time discussion with and be prepared to pay for their time.

Even if I were willing to help a forum without direct, immediate messaging is not the best place to get urgent help.

*: If memory serves there was a "for profit" poster in exactly that situation asking for some very basic help within the last month or so on here. I don't have the link to hand but even if I did I wouldn't name and shame.
**: No, not W.H. Heydt's. That's a general "your"
