Any local privilege escalation can be used after obtaining local access. Copy Fail is high severity because it can also be used to break out of a container. Privilege escalation bugs in user space generally do not allow escape from a container.I don't know how Dirty Pipe could be exploited in detail, but Copy Fail is just too easy to exploit.
The increasing complexity of the Linux kernel suggests the number of exploitable kernel bugs is increasing rather than decreasing. In my opinion kernel versions 2.0.39 and 2.4.37 probably have the fewest such bugs. Unfortunately, many bugs are widely known for older kernels but aren't for the new ones. That may change with AI.
