The "Attrtibute can't be written" message suggests that the handle numbers have been changed, and this causes a problem because the instructions specify the handle. You can use my btferret program to examine the characteristic info and find the handle, and also read the data. The le_client.c (or .py) "Hello World" code (section 2.3.1 in the documentation) could form the basis of custom code to read the device. Characteristics are normally specified via their UUIDs rather than the handles. The UUID will probably be unchanged.
I'm sorry, but I've never done anything like this before and am pretty much baffled by what to do.

Sorry. I'm old, inexperienced and not very smart.
