Hmmm, that was a thought but that still leaves stuff like "popen" and a few other things I need do to bridge the gap between the Server/PHP user interface and the running program.Why not run your c code as user www-data?
My latest trick was sending a signal to my running process from a page click to get it to updated the current HTML page. This feature might be there in PHP 8 but I'm currently struggling on the usefulness that has been pulled.
