OK. So I have done some digging around, and the TV in question does NOT directly support DLNA.
Since it works with BubbleUPnP from my phone, it obviously has some receiver software that BubbleUPnp can identify and work with.

According to what I have read,
Some TCL models ship as Fire TV Editions. Like Roku, Fire TV does not use Google Cast, so you cannot Chromecast to it.
Since I can set a video running from my phone, then exit the phone app, it does not appear that screen mirroring is being used. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can work out what is being used?

(Alternatively, can anyone suggest a lightweight app to run on the Fire TV that would allow the TV to act as a DLNA DMR device?)
