For a breadboard push all the pins in, and when you want to get it out, lever it out carefully with a screwdriver. Use wires with stiff pins or single core wires to wire up a breadboard. If you are not sure about any of it, watch some relevant YT videos. I watch a lot of YT videos too, especially on topics like SMD soldering work to update my skills; one can learn a lot that way.I was unable to push all the pins in and feared the force I would need to release the Pico again. So I got female ends of the wiring to slide over the pins of the Pico and male pins for the breadboard.
One has to make sure connections are good before running a program. Given the description, I think it is not practical to debug anything unless we can see the hardware. I for one would want to check that the circuit (hardware) is good before even looking at the code. Otherwise, we might end up on a wild goose chase and effort might be wasted. 110 is a timeout, which means I cannot trust the wiring.
So it's best to show us the hardware that's been wired up, because we'd want to check _everything_.
