i thought that to, but after using the rpi5, the difference is night & day.
rpi5 is way faster then a tweaked rpi4.

Agreed. After using the Pi-5, i wouldn't go near a Pi-4 anymore. There is a stark difference in performance.

you can really tell in the browser, the pages draw fast, even youtube you can see a difference in loading the page.

once i get the proper power supply and active cooling, i'm gonna try some of the heavier setups like gnome or xfce.

Try them anyway, no need for either the PS or the active cooling when trying them out, you'll probably find they work fine. Pi5 I use at home has no cooler and uses Pi4 PS no problems.
