I have a Raspberry Pi 4, powered by an official power supply. It has a WD Elements portable external drive connected via USB. The drive is formatted as NTFS. I sometimes connect the drive to my windows laptop or my Mac (which I have the NTFS software installed on to support the drive.)
If the Pi is powered off without being shutdown, the external drive becomes corrupted and I have to connect it to my windows laptop to repair. I have not yet detected any lost data or corrupted blocks.
I am not unplugging the Pi without shutting down, but with a few power cuts recently the drive has been corrupted several times.
What are my best options ?
I am making the assumption that the drive will only be corrupted if the Pi if actively writing data to the drive when it loses power. Is this correct?
