That's essential as I see it. And I would also want to see independent evidence from someone with the same Pi as I have, using the same OS as me, that it had worked for them.Choose hardware which comes with instructions on setting up on the Raspberry PI.
The more people who have got it to work for them, the better chance it will work for you. The more giving it praise, the fewer having issues, the better. Such commentary may even substitute for lack of decent official documentation in some cases.
So "follow the herd" may be my top advice unless you have an aptitude and willingness to do battle with things which don't work as expected to.
