I tried similar but ran up against the problem that part is blocking in that until it finishes five seconds of 'realtime' will be unavailable. To avoid this I jumped straight to picam2.stop_recording() which does the dump immediately & I can get back straight into realtime capture. Unfortunately as described above once I do this my buffer disappears & cannot be used again but is still running.
