because the default display format includes both date and time.
it's just a "format display" issue.
date is always stored with time. if you dont provide a time, it is 00:00:00 on the date given.
that is how excel stored dates. always date and time.
click the letter to select the entire column, then right-click and format.
select a display format that does not include the time from the list.
