so you've received a new one which IS working. now you're trying to get the defective one back to working condition, right? The seller did not want the "defective" kit back. They sent a replacement after verifying a couple things about the non working unit.
For the sake of NOT creating e waste and the fact that the LED's changed their behavior I assumed more troubleshooting is required to verify the unit is indeed defective.
with a methodical approach you should come to the point when you're able to tell possible or Not.
If there is no boot diagnostics screen then your chances are Low.
i would try booting from a USB thumb drive after having verified that your 'good' Pi500 is able to show s boot diagnostics screen.
good luck.
